Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  3. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves in a medium bowl.
  4. Mix the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time and mix in the vanilla extract.
  6. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
  7. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting them onto a wire rack.
  10. Frost with cream cheese frosting once cooled.
