Instructions

  • Make custard – In a shallow dish, whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.

  • Heat skillet – Medium heat, melt 1 tbsp butter until foamy.

  • Dip bread – Submerge each slice in custard for 3 seconds per side; don’t oversoak.

  • Cook – Fry slices 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Keep warm in a 200°F oven on a wire rack.

Notes

Medium heat = golden outside, creamy inside. A pinch of nutmeg in the custard adds extra warmth.
