Ingredients
-
8 slices thick-cut cinnamon swirl bread (slightly stale is best)
-
3 large eggs, room temp
-
½ cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
-
¼ cup heavy cream (or extra milk)
-
1 tbsp sugar (optional if bread is sweet)
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
½ tsp ground cinnamon
-
Pinch of salt
-
Butter for cooking
-
Toppings: maple syrup, powdered sugar, berries
Instructions
-
Make custard – In a shallow dish, whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
-
Heat skillet – Medium heat, melt 1 tbsp butter until foamy.
-
Dip bread – Submerge each slice in custard for 3 seconds per side; don’t oversoak.
-
Cook – Fry slices 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Keep warm in a 200°F oven on a wire rack.
-
Serve – Stack, dust with powdered sugar, drizzle syrup, and add berries. Enjoy hot!
Notes
Medium heat = golden outside, creamy inside. A pinch of nutmeg in the custard adds extra warmth.
